What Are The Requirements for Temperature Usage Limits of PE Pipes?

PE pipe is a type of polyethylene plastic, of which basic plastics, plastic bags, plastic wrap, etc. are all PE. HDPE is a highly crystalline, non-polar thermoplastic resin. The original HDPE has a milky white appearance and a certain degree of translucency in thin sections. PE has excellent resistance to most household and industrial chemicals. What are the temperature requirements?

Temperature Limits for PE Pipes

The resin is polymerized from the monomer ethylene. Due to different polymerization conditions such as pressure and temperature during polymerization, resins of different densities can be obtained, so they are divided into high-density polyethylene, medium-density polyethylene, and low-density polyethylene. When processing different types of PE pipes, different resin grades are selected according to their application conditions, and the requirements for extruders and molds are also different.

From the perspective of high-temperature resistance, the performance of pipes decreases rapidly as the temperature increases, and is limited to cold water transportation. PE pipes are light in weight, have good toughness, good low-temperature resistance, are non-toxic, cheap, and have high impact strength.

The pipe is cold brittle (the brittle point is -20°C), and winter construction (below 5°C) requires special vigilance. Since the microstructure of the PE pipe itself determines that PE has poor resistance to rapid cracking, Pipes are prohibited from being used for gas supply in Europe.

The low-temperature impact resistance of the pipe is very good. Polyethylene has a low-temperature embrittlement temperature and can be used in the temperature range of -60-60°C. During winter construction, due to the good impact resistance of the material, the pipe will not be brittle but do not think that the PE pipe can withstand a temperature of 60°C and use it as a hot water pipe. This is wrong. Materials will undergo physical changes under long-term overload work, so in terms of safety, it is better to reserve 20% space in various applications.
